Josh Perry: Launch Coach and Educational Therapist
Individualizing support in order to launch your child into the desired trajectory!
Individualizing support in order to launch your child into the desired trajectory!
I facilitate developmental milestones through individualized course corrections designed to empower children to launch themselves into a happy and healthy trajectory and successfully reach their desired destinations.
Does your child need a course correction? Are they a falling star instead of a shooting one? Is the gravity of their struggles causing inertia and leading them to miss their desired trajectory, or is it just a phase? If these are questions you want answers to then a Launch Coach is right for you!
I apply educational therapy practices and strategies within my work, as a means to support a student's educational needs and school work, while also providing fun curriculum based on critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and logical processing that are designed to improve a students processing skills and academic results.
When Josh came into my life, I was in the Fourth Grade, and I struggled in school due to a learning disability and an anxiety disorder. Very quickly after we began working together, I was provided with the support I needed to completely shift around my habits and become a strong student in school. As I went on to high school and college, despite achieving good grades, my anxiety levels continued to remain high, and so the objective of my sessions with Josh looked a bit different: now he was there to assist me with analytical essay writing, but even more than that, he was there to help me work through my assignments in the midst of serious anxiety crises that I was going through. During one of my worst episodes in college, Josh remained committed to helping me, almost throughout the entire weekend. Ultimately, if not for Josh and the wonderful guy that he is, I am not sure where I would be at the moment. Without any hesitation, I can say that Josh is a man that I consider to be a wonderful tutor, therapist, and friend.
If you’re looking for an education therapist to help your kid get good grades, then Josh is not the person for you. Josh doesn’t spend hours on the phone with your kid’s school to help him get better grades. He doesn’t follow up with your neuropsychologist asking questions and gaining clarification, to help your kid get that 4.0+ GPA. And Josh certainly does not freely hand over his cell number to your kid so they can talk through the themes of The Odyssey, just so your kid to get a higher grade.
Josh does these things because he embraces the idea of the whole kid; not the whole person, the whole kid. And yeah, they’re different. Josh cares about the grades, but what he truly cares about, is my kid. He meets my son where he is and somehow with guidance and motivation, gets him to a place where school just falls into place. Do the grades come? Sure they do. Is that Josh’s only measure for success? Absolutely not.
Self confidence, self reliance, independence, responsibility and happiness, are worthwhile measurables too.
As I tally our son’s progress, I appreciate how and where Josh has bridged gaps, or shored up deficiencies. Our son has self confidence and self worth that is incalculable, and can sometimes be elusive to kids with ADHD. Josh is helping our son grow into a leader, a thoughtful friend, a loving brother, a conscientious student, and all around good person, who by the way, also gets good grades.
Josh was everything I could’ve ever wanted in terms of academic and emotional support. He truly understands the ins and outs of the learning process and where it can fall short for many kids (like myself). He also acknowledged one of the most overlooked truths about working with kids: they don’t like being talked down to, and Josh never does. He helped me learn how to problem solve, think deeply, and apply my skills to myriad topics. Josh does this all while coming from the perspective of someone who is on your team facing these challenges with you and making sure your in the best position to succeed!
We have worked with other educational therapists and tutors over the years, but Josh was the last one. Our son said that Josh was the first professional to believe in him, and I overheard many sessions in our home that were filled with laughter and learning. He was also there for the tougher times, and helped us guide our son through challenges that we saw as immense and he saw as something that was part of growing up. More times than not, when asked about a path to take or what lay ahead in the future, he predicted exactly what would happen. He always would take the time to calmly analyze any situation, explain how a school would respond to a question or concern, and provide us with the guidance for how to approach and discuss aspects of our son that we were afraid to bring up on our own. A wonderful advocate and person, we would recommend Josh to anyone looking for a the best to help their child and family.
I have been working with Josh for 8 years now and It has been nothing short of amazing. Whether it is the academic advice and help with strategizing and organizing myself to get through the school year, or the wisdom given and friendship in which we have built, he is always there for me whenever I need him. I could not recommend someone more than I could him.
